MOCA PAVILION
Project type
Experimental Design + Fabrication
Year
2013
Location
Los Angeles, CA
Architect
Tom Wiscombe, AIA
This pavilion explored surface-to-volume transformations, achieving mass by pushing into a surface like a fist through a rubber sheet. The perimeter edges of the three components are razor-thin, creating a visual tension between the 2D/flat and 3D/massive realms. Arranged in a triangular formation, the three super-components appear as an aggregation of objects nested within an implied outer enclosure.
